Search Intent
The underlying purpose behind a user's search query
Search intent refers to the reason behind a user’s search query — what they’re actually trying to accomplish. The four main types are informational (seeking knowledge), navigational (finding a specific site), transactional (ready to purchase), and commercial investigation (comparing options before buying). Understanding search intent is critical for both content creation and link building because Google prioritizes pages that match the intent behind a query. When building linkable assets, aligning content with search intent increases its value and naturally attracts more links. Pages that perfectly satisfy search intent tend to earn higher rankings and more organic backlinks over time.
