Partner Renewal Process
How to evaluate and renew link exchange partnerships for long-term value
For SEO Manager
When to Review Partnerships
Review each link exchange partnership at 6 months and 12 months after initial placement. This ensures you maintain only high-value exchanges and free up capacity for better opportunities.
Renewal Evaluation Criteria
Performance Review
- Link status — Is the partner’s link still live and dofollow?
- Page quality — Has the linking page maintained or improved its metrics?
- Traffic value — Is the link driving any referral traffic?
- Ranking impact — Has the link contributed to improved rankings for the target page?
Partner Behavior Review
- Compliance — Has the partner maintained all agreed terms?
- Communication — Have they been responsive and professional?
- Stability — Have there been any issues requiring intervention?
Decision Framework
Renew and Expand
If the partner scores well on all criteria, reach out to discuss additional exchanges. These are your most valuable relationships.
Renew As-Is
If the exchange is functioning properly but the partner is not a top performer, maintain the current exchange without additional investment.
Renegotiate
If the value balance has shifted (your site has grown significantly, their page quality has declined), propose updated terms that better reflect current metrics.
Terminate
If the partner has repeatedly violated terms, removed links, or their site quality has degraded significantly, end the exchange. Steps for termination:
- Remove your outbound link
- Notify the partner professionally
- Document the reason in Linkorite
- Add the partner to your do-not-contact list
